Was there…?    и ответы на них

Чтобы спросить, находился ли в интересующем тебя месте какой-то человек, животное или предмет, тебе нужно переместить was в начало предложения, чтобы сразу стало понятно, что ты задаешь вопрос.

Получится: Was there…?

Просто ответь Yes или No, а затем верни was/were на обычное место – после there. Если ответ отрицательный – не забудь после was/were поставить not:

Was there a bird on the fence?                     Yes, there was.  или  No, there was not.
